Before you buy a bra you need to determine your size. This means knowing the cup size so that you get the lingerie measurements exact. . To get this information you will need a tape measure that reads in inches. This is because most bras in the world use inches to describe lingerie size. You should measure yourself while you are nude unless you have a favorite bra that is very comfortable. In that case you should keep that on while you get measured as a guide to “what works” for you with lingerie.

There are two important things that you need to consider to measure your bra and cup size correctly. The first thing is the size of your frame and the other is the size of your chest coupled with the size of your breasts.

One important thing to note when you are measuring yourself for a bra is that you don’t have to go exactly by what the measuring tape says. For instance if your reading says you should be wearing a 34B but a 36 C fits your better than go for what is most comfortable.

To find out what the size of your frame is measure the diameter around your chest just below your breasts.  This means circling the ribcage with your measuring tape. Record this measurement.  Then add 5 to determine your bra size. If the number ends up being an odd number then round it up to the next round number. For instance if your frame size is 28 inches and you add 5 to get 33 inches then you need to round the number up to 34.  This is because bra sizes only come in even numbered sizes.  Therefore your lingerie size in this case would be 34 inches.

To figure out your actual breast size you circle the measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust. The best thing to do is place the tape at the level of the nipples. If you are very well built you it might be a good idea for you to wear your most comfortable brassiere while doing this so you can get the most accurate lingerie measurement.  Record this number as well.

To calculate your lingerie cup size take your chest and breast size numbers and subtract your bra size number.  The difference will tell you your cup size. You are AA if the difference is 0 to ½ inch, A if it is 1 to 2 ½ inches, B if it is 2 ½ to 3 ½ inches, C if it is 3 ½ to 4 ½ inches and D if it is 4 ½ to 6 inches.

Bras are also sized in double digits. If your breast is 6 to7 inches you are DD, 7 to8 inches you are DD or E and 7 to 8 inches you are DDD or F.  A G size usually refers to a difference of 8 inches of more.
